- Weathering the Storm: Storm Duck’s Path Back to the Dolphins Secondary
Defensive backfield help is on the way. Though not a hurricane, help arrives in the form of a storm. Storm Duck is officially back on the practice field for the Miami Dolphins , igniting a 21-day roster activation window that could provide a massive boost to Miami's defensive backfield.
The road back has required immense patience. The man named after a soap opera star has had his share of daytime drama with his path to the NFL and his knee injury. After defying the odds as an undrafted free agent in 2024 to make the 53-man roster, the 25-year-old cornerback's trajectory was cruelly halted during the 2025 campaign. A devastating knee injury suffered in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons sidelined him for nearly a calendar year, forcing him to spend the entire 2026 offseason and the first month of the regular season rehabbing on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

That long stretch of isolation ended this week. The Miami Dolphins officially opened his practice window, allowing Duck to rejoin his teammates as a limited participant in preparation for Week 4. While head coach Jeff Hafley confirmed that Duck will not suit up for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, his presence on the practice field is a crucial milestone. Observers even noted an Achilles designation added to the injury report, but Hafley quickly cleared the air, reassuring media that there was no tear and that Duck is moving exceptionally well.
Miami's front office is clearly planning around his imminent return. The team chose to head into the weekend carrying only 52 players on their active roster—a rare NFL strategy that strongly hints a roster spot is being preserved specifically for reinforcements like Duck. Miami has until October 21to officially add him to the 53-man lineup. For a secondary looking to cement its depth alongside stars like Jalen Ramsey, getting a physical, high-upside corner like Storm Duck back in the mix is exactly the kind of reinforcement the Dolphins need for a grueling season ahead.
Look for the Duck to Storm the defensive backfield and bring some level of confidence to the Big Nickel Defense the team needs to step up the rest of the season.
