The Cleveland Browns picked up the 27-24 road win against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7, but the win wasn't without a cost. Starting right tackle Tytus Howard left the game due to a head injury, and he was placed into the league's mandated concussion protocol.
In addition, defensive back Myles Harden limped off in the second half due to a hamstring injury. However, he was able to return in the fourth quarter, and he finished the game, so that's a great sign. And, running back Dylan Sampson made his way back to the lineup for the first time since Week 1, and he made some splash plays.
Dylan Sampson Gives Cleveland Another Playmaker
Sampson was knocked out of the Week 1 loss at Jacksonville due to a knee injury , and he landed on the reserve/injured list with a designation to return. After missing five games, Sampson was activated ahead of Sunday's game.
Sampson served as a complementary option to running back Quinshon Judkins, who was also returning from a one-week absence due to an ankle injury. Judkins looked good, flirting with 100 rushing yards with two touchdowns, while Sampson had six carries for 45 yards. Sampson also added three receptions for 32 yards on his three targets, too.
The Cleveland run game was sharp, going for 183 yards on 29 carries, or 6.3 yards per rushing attempt, while Judkins had two scores, and quarterback Deshaun Watson added another. Watson ran three times for 19 yards, while rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion added 23 yards. Judkins and Sampson combined for 23 carries and 141 yards.
Sampson did not reprise his role in the kick return game, however, which is how he hurt himself in the opener. Running back Jaleel McLaughlin had five kick returns for 117 yards to more than do the job.
Offensive Line Does its job in win
The Browns offensive line had been much maligned, as Cleveland has failed to blow open holes for running backs most of the season, while Watson has had to run for his life because of a breakdown in protection. Neither of those things happened on Sunday, as the O-line might have had its best game of the season.
Watson was sacked just once, and, again, the rushing attack had 6.3 yards per attempt. It's a far cry from the Week 5 loss, when the New York Jets had eight sacks in the 17-12 win over the Browns .
