Halloween may be over, but apparently nobody told the defensive coordinators around the NFL. The costumes have been packed away, the jack-o'-lanterns are beginning to rot and the neighborhood kids have already demolished their candy collections.

Unfortunately, IDP fantasy managers are still dealing with nightmares, disappearing linebackers and defensive rotations that make about as much sense as the plot of a low-budget horror movie.

With Week 8 in the books, we're reminded that the box score doesn't always tell the whole story in IDP fantasy football. A linebacker can finish with double-digit tackles and still lose playing time, while another might post five tackles but quietly take over an every-down role. Those are the developments that matter when we're trying to stay one step ahead of the waiver wire.

As the fantasy playoff picture begins to take shape, every defensive snap matters.

This week's report examines the linebackers who are gaining ground, those whose roles are becoming less dependable and what their Week 8 usage tells us about their fantasy value moving forward.

Week 8 Linebacker Usage Efficiency

Arizona Cardinals

Mack Wilson Sr.finished Week 8 with eight tackles and a tackle for loss, while Jack Gibbenscontributed 10 tackles. Both continue handling significant defensive responsibilities, averaging 62.2 and 53.9 snaps per game, respectively.

Neither has particularly impressed in coverage, however. Wilson carries a 37.7 coverage grade, while Gibbens sits at 31.9. Wilson's 14.9% missed-tackle rate is another concern, especially for a linebacker whose fantasy production depends heavily on tackle volume.

Wilson remains the more established option because of his playing time, but Gibbens continues generating enough tackles to remain relevant in deeper formats. Neither offers a particularly exciting ceiling, making both better suited for tackle-heavy scoring systems where consistent opportunities carry more value than splash plays.

Atlanta Falcons

Kendal Danielsdelivered a monster performance for IDP managers in Week 8, wearing the green dot and playing 59 of Atlanta's 60 defensive snaps (98.3%). He finished with 13 tackles, including six solos, producing an impressive 22% tackle rate. Harold Perkins Jr.contributed six tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack, but his defensive participation declined from 85% to 68%.

The Falcons continue adjusting their linebacker rotation while waiting for Divine Deabloto return. Josh Woodsreentered the picture with a 32% snap share, but Daniels has clearly separated himself from the competition. His 81.9 coverage grade strengthens his case, while Perkins' 28.2 run-defense grade raises questions about his effectiveness as an every-down linebacker.

Right now, Daniels and Perkins are holding down the linebacker responsibilities until Deablo returns, but Daniels is head and shoulders above Perkins in the competition for the LB2 position. Daniels is firmly in the driver's seat for that role and his growing defensive responsibilities make him increasingly difficult to overlook in IDP leagues.

Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore's linebacker situation is becoming increasingly interesting and Trenton Simpsonmight want to start looking over his shoulder. Rookie Teddye Buchanansaw his defensive snap share jump from 18% to 53%, playing 40 snaps and recording six tackles for a 15.0% tackle rate. Buchanan was also targeted three times in coverage and contributed three pass-rush snaps, suggesting Baltimore is expanding his responsibilities.

Simpson played 49 defensive snaps (64%), leaving the two linebackers separated by just nine plays. Meanwhile, Roquan Smithrecorded 11 tackles, two pass breakups and a forced fumble despite a reduction in his playing time. Interestingly, Smith and Buchanan rotated green-dot responsibilities, another indication that Baltimore could be experimenting with its linebacker hierarchy.

Smith remains the established fantasy starter, but Buchanan's rising snap count and involvement in defensive communication are worth watching. The gap between Buchanan and Simpson is closing and a potential changing of the guard could be approaching. Buchanan is the player I'd be keeping an eye on before this situation becomes more obvious to the rest of the fantasy community.

Buffalo Bills

Terrel Bernardremains the centerpiece of Buffalo's linebacker corps, wearing the green dot and playing 37 of 49 defensive snaps (76%) in Week 8. He finished with six tackles, producing a solid 16.2% tackle rate, while spending 21 snaps in coverage.

Dorian Williamsoperated as the secondary linebacker, playing 28 snaps (57%) and recording three tackles, including one for loss. Kaleb Elarms-Orralso worked into the rotation with 14 snaps (29%), further limiting the opportunities available behind Bernard.

Bernard remains the clear LB1 in Buffalo and the only dependable weekly IDP starter of the group. Williams offers occasional value in deeper leagues, but the combination of limited playing time and additional personnel competition makes him difficult to trust consistently.

Carolina Panthers

Bobby Okerekefinished Week 8 with five tackles and a fumble recovery, while Devin Lloydrecorded seven tackles. Both linebackers continue handling substantial defensive workloads, giving fantasy managers a relatively stable situation compared with some of the rotations developing around the league.

Okereke's 49.1 run-defense grade remains a concern, although his opportunities have helped him maintain fantasy relevance. Lloyd delivered a respectable seven tackles without needing a turnover or sack to boost his weekly production.

Neither linebacker generated a particularly memorable performance, but sometimes steady production is exactly what fantasy managers need. Lloyd remains the more appealing option if his playing time continues holding steady, while Okereke is best viewed as a tackle-dependent starter in deeper leagues.

Chicago Bears

The Bears played on Monday Night Football and Devin Bushwas the bright spot in Chicago's linebacker room, recording six tackles (five solo) and a sack in the Bears' 34-17 win over Seattle. That sack provided a nice boost for managers in balanced and big-play scoring formats. Beyond Bush, however, there wasn't much to get excited about. T.J. Edwardsfinished with just two solo tackles, Noah Sewellmanaged one and D'Marco Jacksonfailed to record a defensive tackle. Chicago's linebacker rotation continues to be a headache for IDP managers trying to identify dependable weekly contributors. Bush delivered the production this week, but until the snap counts reveal a clearer picture, I'm not ready to trust anyone else in this group.

Cincinnati Bengals

Demetrius Knight Jr.continues moving in the right direction at an important point in the fantasy season. He finished Week 8 with five tackles and a tackle for loss, while Barrett Carteradded eight tackles and a tackle for loss.

Knight's defensive participation increased from 73% to 84%, a meaningful development considering Cincinnati operated out of nickel personnel on 92.9% of its defensive plays. His increased involvement suggests the coaching staff is becoming more comfortable keeping him on the field in its primary defensive packages.

Carter continues handling significant responsibilities, averaging 66.7 defensive snaps per game, although his 13.8% missed-tackle rate remains a concern. Knight's increasing playing time makes him an intriguing IDP option, particularly if his workload continues climbing toward a full-time role. This is the kind of snap progression fantasy managers should be identifying before the production catches up.

Cleveland Browns

Carson Schwesingerturned in another mildly interesting performance with 10 tackles, while Quincy Williamsfinished with five tackles and a sack that helped boost his fantasy production for the day.

Schwesinger hasn't quite delivered the elite fantasy leap some managers were expecting, but he's quietly building his value through straightforward tackle production. He's not necessarily generating the explosive plays that separate the elite IDP linebackers from the rest of the field, but there's something to be said for a player who consistently puts tackles on the board.

That's particularly valuable in 1-2-3 scoring, where solo tackles earn two points and consistent tackle volume can carry a linebacker through an otherwise uneventful afternoon. Williams offers a different fantasy profile, with his sack providing the kind of big-play boost that can change a weekly result. Schwesinger remains the steadier tackle-based option, while Williams offers more appeal when big plays are heavily rewarded.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas appears to be settling into a more defined linebacker rotation, with Shemar Jamestaking control of the defense. James played 96% of the defensive snaps in Week 8 and wore the green dot, handling the communication responsibilities while collecting nine tackles, an interception and a pass breakup.

DeMarvion Overshownalso saw his playing time increase from 63% to 74%, finishing with eight tackles. Meanwhile, Jaishawn Barham's defensive participation fell from 34% to just 18%, suggesting the Cowboys are becoming more comfortable leaning on James and Overshown.

James' 96% snap share and green-dot responsibilities are the real story here. The interception was a welcome bonus, but his nearly every-down role provides a much stronger foundation for sustainable fantasy production. Overshown's rising involvement is encouraging as well, making both linebackers increasingly attractive IDP options moving forward.

Denver Broncos

Alex Singletonput together one of the most impressive linebacker performances of Week 8, collecting 14 tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss. His production reflects the enormous responsibility he continues to carry in Denver's defense, where he's averaging approximately 73 defensive snaps per game.

Singleton also owns an outstanding 90.1 run-defense grade, demonstrating that his value extends beyond simply accumulating tackles. Between his defensive workload and effectiveness against the run, he has the combination IDP managers should prioritize.

Justin Strnadmanaged just two tackles and continues struggling with consistency, carrying a 19.2% season-long missed-tackle rate. Singleton remains the clear fantasy priority in Denver and should continue to be treated as a weekly starter across most IDP scoring formats.

Detroit Lions

Detroit's linebacker situation could be headed for a significant shakeup following Jack Campbell's neck injury. Campbell had been handling a full-time defensive role but finished Week 8 with a 78% snap share after leaving the contest. Derrick Barnes, who entered the week with a 100% role, finished at 52%, although he played 92% of the fourth-quarter defensive snaps following Campbell's departure.

Jimmy Roldercontributed five tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack while playing 34% of the snaps, with Malcolm Rodriguezhandling another 30%.

If Campbell's injury turns out to be serious, Barnes looks like the player who would inherit Campbell's primary linebacker responsibilities, while Rodriguez could emerge as the LB2 alongside him. Rolder's production was impressive, but his limited playing time makes him a difficult player to trust without a more permanent role.

Barnes is the priority to monitor, especially with injuries potentially forcing Detroit to reorganize its linebacker rotation. If Campbell is unavailable, Barnes could quickly become one of the more attractive short-term additions in IDP leagues.

Green Bay Packers

Ty'Ron Hopperproduced one of Week 8's most surprising linebacker performances, collecting eight tackles, a sack, an interception and three pass breakups. Those numbers certainly caught the attention of fantasy managers, but there are reasons to approach his performance cautiously.

Hopper entered the week averaging approximately 35 defensive snaps per game, and eight of his 12 recorded season tackles came during this single outing. That type of production spike is difficult to sustain without a corresponding increase in playing time.

Isaiah McDuffie, meanwhile, finished with 10 tackles and continues presenting a more conventional tackle-based fantasy profile.

Hopper deserves attention in deeper leagues, but fantasy managers should avoid chasing one exceptional performance without evidence of a permanent role increase. McDuffie remains the more practical option for managers prioritizing predictable tackle opportunities.

Indianapolis Colts

C.J. Allenis quickly becoming one of the more interesting linebacker developments in Indianapolis. After managing just 46 defensive snaps across his first four appearances, Allen saw his workload explode to 83% in Week 8 and rewarded fantasy managers with 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack.

Even though Indianapolis rotated the green-dot responsibilities, Allen's increased involvement was impossible to ignore. Akeem Davis-Gaitherfinished with 36 defensive snaps (approximately 68%) but did not play in the fourth quarter, while Segun Ajiake's involvement declined to 19%.

Allen's jump to an 83% snap share is the biggest takeaway. The production followed the opportunity, and that's exactly what fantasy managers want to see from a potential waiver-wire addition. The green-dot rotation introduces some uncertainty, but Allen has clearly worked his way into a much more prominent defensive role. Another week of substantial playing time could establish him as a legitimate weekly IDP option.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville's linebacker rotation continues to become more frustrating for fantasy managers. Foyesade Oluokunremained productive with nine tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack, but the movement behind him makes the secondary linebacker position difficult to trust.

Ventrell Millersaw his defensive participation decline from 85% to 67%, playing 40 snaps and finishing with only two tackles. He also contributed six pass-rush snaps but failed to turn those opportunities into meaningful fantasy production. Jahlani Tavai, meanwhile, increased his involvement from just 2% to 28%, absorbing a larger share of the available defensive snaps.

Neither Miller nor Tavai is a trustworthy fantasy option right now. The unpredictable snap distribution makes it difficult to project consistent opportunities, and neither has demonstrated enough production to overcome that volatility. Oluokun remains the clear fantasy priority in Jacksonville, while the other linebackers are better left on the waiver wire until the rotation stabilizes.

Kansas City Chiefs

Nick Boltonremains Kansas City's most dependable linebacker, finishing Week 8 with nine tackles. Drue Tranquilladded five tackles, while Jack Cochranecontinued seeing his defensive opportunities disappear.

Cochrane's snap share declined from 41% to just 18%, further separating the Chiefs' established linebackers from their rotational contributors. Bolton continues leading the group in playing time, averaging 67.4 defensive snaps per game.

Tranquill has been particularly reliable as a tackler, carrying just a 3.4% missed-tackle rate. That efficiency makes him useful in formats where consistent tackle production matters, although Bolton's larger workload provides the more dependable weekly foundation.

Bolton remains the preferred fantasy starter, with Tranquill offering reasonable value in deeper leagues. Cochrane's reduced participation leaves little reason to consider him outside extremely deep formats.

Los Angeles Chargers

Daiyan Henleyfinished Week 8 with five tackles, while Del'Shawn Phillipsdelivered a relatively quiet performance. However, the Chargers' linebacker rotation featured another interesting development with Marlowe Waxbecoming more involved.

Wax increased his defensive participation from 11% to 28%, taking opportunities away from the established linebackers. Troy Dyealso handled the green-dot responsibilities while Henley was unavailable, although Henley subsequently returned.

Henley's 33.3 coverage grade is another concern, particularly if opponents continue targeting him in passing situations. His fantasy value remains tied primarily to tackle opportunities rather than consistent coverage production.

Henley is still the most recognizable fantasy option in this group, but the additional rotation makes the secondary linebackers difficult to trust. Managers should monitor whether his return restores a more substantial workload.

Los Angeles Rams

Nate Landmanreturned to a more prominent role in the Rams' defense, playing 71% of the defensive snaps while handling the green-dot communication responsibilities. He finished with eight tackles and a tackle for loss, while Omar Speightsrecorded five tackles.

Los Angeles also made an important personnel adjustment, reducing its use of packages featuring seven or more defensive backs from 29.7% to 15.3%. That change created additional opportunities for traditional linebackers to remain on the field.

Speights maintained a 58% snap share, which provides some stability, although his overall season average of 28.9 snaps per game illustrates how inconsistent his opportunities have been.

Landman's communication responsibilities and increased playing time make him the more attractive fantasy option. Speights remains relevant in deeper leagues, but his limited workload makes him a risky weekly starter.

Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas' linebacker rotation continues presenting challenges for fantasy managers. Nakobe Deanfinished Week 8 with 12 tackles and a tackle for loss, while Quay Walkercontributed nine tackles and a tackle for loss.

Dean's production is supported by his defensive responsibilities, with approximately 88% of his snaps coming in the box. Walker operates in the box less frequently, at approximately 60%, and his 31.6 coverage grade raises questions about his effectiveness in passing situations.

The Raiders also returned to a greater emphasis on nickel personnel, which contributed to Tommy Eichenberg's defensive participation falling from 62% to 34%.

Dean is the preferred fantasy option because of his tackle production and favorable alignment. Walker remains useful in deeper formats, while Eichenberg's shrinking role makes him difficult to justify in most starting lineups.

Miami Dolphins

Jordyn Brookscontinued delivering dependable tackle production with 11 tackles in Week 8, while Jacob Rodriguezcontributed eight tackles.

Brooks remains the more established fantasy option, benefiting from his ability to remain involved around the football and generate consistent tackle opportunities. Rodriguez has also demonstrated useful production, although his 51.5 run-defense grade suggests he still has room for improvement.

For IDP managers, Brooks remains the safer weekly starter. Rodriguez has enough involvement to warrant attention in deeper leagues, particularly those that reward tackles heavily, but he has yet to establish the same level of dependability.

Minnesota Vikings

Eric Wilsonput together an excellent statistical performance in Week 8, recording 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. Blake Cashmanwasn't far behind, contributing 10 tackles and a tackle for loss.

Wilson's production was impressive, but his 21.3% missed-tackle rate introduces some concern about his consistency. Cashman provides a more balanced defensive profile, with 31 recorded stops and a 78.6 coverage grade.

Both linebackers remain productive enough to warrant fantasy consideration, but Cashman's more dependable defensive performance makes him the safer long-term hold.

Wilson still offers considerable upside when he's generating tackles behind the line of scrimmage and contributing as a pass rusher. However, fantasy managers should be careful about expecting that additional production every week.

New England Patriots

Christian Ellisscontinues making a strong case for greater fantasy recognition. He finished Week 8 with nine tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack, while Robert Spillanemanaged just four tackles.

Elliss has also demonstrated stronger performance against the run, carrying a 78.1 run-defense grade compared with Spillane's 57.5. Those numbers support the argument that Elliss is contributing more than just occasional fantasy production.

The difference in their Week 8 performances highlights why defensive efficiency and playing time both matter when evaluating linebacker options.

Elliss is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore in IDP leagues, particularly for managers looking for productive linebackers who may still be available on waivers. Spillane remains relevant because of his established role, but Elliss offers an attractive combination of tackle production and big-play potential.

New York Jets

Jamien Sherwooddelivered another impressive tackle performance in Week 8, collecting 14 tackles. Demario Daviscontributed seven tackles, providing useful production but falling well short of Sherwood's output.

Davis continues handling a substantial defensive workload, averaging 66.2 snaps per game. However, his 17.2% missed-tackle rate raises concerns about how efficiently he's converting those opportunities into defensive stops.

Sherwood's ability to generate tackles makes him the more appealing option for fantasy managers, particularly in tackle-heavy formats.

Davis still has value because of his extensive playing time, but Sherwood should be the preferred starting option based on his current production.

Philadelphia Eagles

Zack Baunfinished Week 8 with seven tackles and a fumble recovery, while Jeremiah Trotter Jr.collected 10 tackles. Jihaad Campbellwas absent from the supplied Week 8 top-100 linebacker data, making his role worth revisiting before finalizing any fantasy recommendations.

Trotter's performance deserves attention because additional playing time could quickly improve his value in deeper IDP formats. However, one productive game isn't enough to establish a dependable weekly role without examining the underlying snap distribution.

Baun remains the more established option because of his broader defensive responsibilities and history of substantial playing time.

Trotter is worth monitoring, particularly in deeper leagues, but managers should confirm his weekly workload before treating him as a reliable starter.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Patrick Queendelivered one of the week's most impressive IDP performances, finishing with 12 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. Payton Wilsonadded eight tackles and a tackle for loss, giving Pittsburgh two productive linebackers.

Queen's full-time defensive role provides an excellent foundation for fantasy production, although two-sack performances are unlikely to become a weekly occurrence. His ability to contribute across multiple statistical categories makes him especially valuable in balanced and big-play scoring formats.

Wilson also deserves recognition for his effectiveness against the run, carrying an 87.2 run-defense grade.

Queen remains the preferred fantasy starter because of his substantial responsibilities and diverse production. Wilson has value as well, particularly in leagues where consistent tackles and defensive stops are rewarded.

Seattle Seahawks

Monday Night Football proved to be yet another busy night for Ernest Jones IV. Seattle's tackling machine racked up 13 combined tackles (five solo and eight assists), once again showing why he's the linebacker to roster in this defense. Drake Thomaschipped in seven tackles, while Derick Halladded four.

Meanwhile, Tyrice Knightwas nowhere to be found in the defensive tackle column, which certainly doesn't help his fantasy outlook. Jones remains the unquestioned LB1 in Seattle, particularly in tackle-heavy formats, but Thomas is the player I'll be watching when the snap counts become available. Seven tackles will get your attention, but I want to see whether the playing time supports that production before recommending him as a weekly starter. For now, Jones is the only Seattle linebacker I'm starting without hesitation.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Alex Anzalonedelivered an unusual statistical performance in Week 8, collecting six tackles and two interceptions. Josiah Trottercontributed five tackles but offered considerably less fantasy upside.

Anzalone's interceptions made him one of the week's notable fantasy performers, although his 46.4 coverage grade suggests managers should be careful about projecting similar turnover production going forward.

Interceptions can transform a linebacker's weekly fantasy score, but they are among the least predictable defensive statistics. A player's defensive workload and tackle opportunities generally provide a more reliable foundation. Anzalone remains useful in appropriate formats, but managers should avoid treating his two-interception performance as the beginning of a sustainable weekly trend.

Tennessee Titans

Anthony Hill Jr.delivered an outstanding tackle performance in Week 8, finishing with 14 tackles. His defensive responsibilities help explain the production, as he's averaging approximately 70.1 snaps per game and spending 94% of his playing time in the box.

That kind of alignment creates considerable tackle opportunities, although Hill's 50.2 run-defense grade suggests there is room for improvement in his overall effectiveness.

Elsewhere, Tennessee continues splitting another linebacker position between Cody Bartonand Cedric Gray. Barton reclaimed the playing-time advantage with a 54% snap share compared with Gray's 47%, reversing the previous week's distribution when Gray reached 56%.

Hill is clearly the most appealing fantasy option because of his substantial workload and favorable alignment. Barton and Gray remain difficult to trust while neither has established a consistent advantage in playing time.

Washington Commanders

Sonny Stylesand Frankie Luvueach finished Week 8 with eight tackles, giving fantasy managers similar statistical production from Washington's linebacker group.

However, their season-long tackling efficiency tells a different story. Styles carries a 16.4% missed-tackle rate, while Luvu has yet to record a missed tackle in the supplied season data.

That distinction is worth monitoring because tackling efficiency can help determine which linebackers maintain the confidence of their coaching staffs, particularly when defensive personnel packages change.

Both players remain useful IDP options, but Luvu's reliability provides an additional reason to trust his role. Styles still carries considerable upside, especially if his defensive responsibilities continue expanding.

Week 8 Bye Weeks and Monday Night Football

The New York Giants, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints were on their scheduled bye weeks.

Week 9 Linebacker Waiver Wire Recommendations

C.J. Allen, Indianapolis Colts

Many shallow-league managers dropped the rookie during his benching, but Week 8 showed us a promising workload. With the linebacker situation now wide open, Allen is poised to soak up a lot of volume over the next couple of weeks. This week was promising, with an 88% snap share and 10 tackles. The interesting part is that we aren't even sure what his ceiling is yet.

Micah McFadden, New York Giants

McFadden remains an intriguing linebacker target for fantasy managers looking for production for the rest of the season. He was the next man up once Tremaine Edmunds went down with a season-ending injury. McFadden rewarded IDP managers with a 100% snap share and a 10-tackle performance. He is the poster child for the philosophy that volume is king.

With the Giants coming off their bye week, this could be an opportunity to acquire a player whose fantasy value is tied to the possibility of a substantial defensive workload.

Derrick Barnes, Detroit Lions

Detroit's growing injury concerns could create an excellent opportunity for Derrick Barnesheading into Week 9. With Jack Campbelldealing with a neck injury and Jimmy Rolderalso reportedly injured, the Lions may have little choice but to expand Barnes' responsibilities.

The encouraging part is that we've already seen how Detroit responded when Campbell left the field. Barnes checks all the boxes as a strong waiver-wire addition, as he handled 92% of the fourth-quarter defensive snaps and was a legitimate IDP starter just a few weeks ago.

Malcolm Rodriguezcould also benefit from the situation, potentially sliding into the LB2 position alongside Barnes. However, Barnes is the player I'm prioritizing because of his experience, established role and potential to approach every-down participation.

Shemar James, Dallas Cowboys

This is a sneaky addition, as many leagues still don't know what to make of him. We identified this opportunity a few weeks ago. With snap shares of 79%, 88% and 96% over the past three weeks, James is showing clear signs of becoming an every-down player, even if he hasn't received much attention yet. With just 19 tackles over those three weeks, his production should have room to improve, but his nine tackles this week will put him on the radar of savvy IDP managers. If you can acquire him while other managers are still discussing Dee Winters and Barham, you may have landed an inexpensive LB2 for the rest of the season.
