Of course, White Sox manager Will Venable is happy to learn of this development , with his team in need of a spark after getting swept in a three-game series by the Boston Red Sox at home.
"I think it's going to be a great jolt. That's real. We understand the impact he makes on the field and in the clubhouse so to activate him is going to mean a lot for our group. Really excited about him," Venable said about the looming return of Murakami, who has been such a source of power at the plate for Chicago.
The 26-year-old Murakami hasn't played a game with the White Sox since suffering a lower-body injury (later determined as Grade 2 right hamstring strain) in a game versus the Detroit Tigers on May 29.
So far in the 2026 MLB season, his first in the big leagues, Murakami is hitting .240/.378/.560 with 20 home runs and 41 RBIs through 57 games and 246 plate appearances. He went 2-for-7 with a double in rehab appearances with the White Sox's Triple-A affiliate Charlotte Knights.
During Murakami's stint on the injured list, the White Sox went 17-18. They are entering the Athletics series with a 47-45 record — still the best in the American League Central Division.
