The Chicago White Sox exceeded expectations in 2026, winning their first postseason series since 2005.
Now, the White Sox will look to strengthen the roster, more specifically the pitching staff, before next year.
Chicago's starting rotation was mostly carried by strong seasons from Sean Burke and Davis Martin, but the organization might need to add a few veterans with postseason experience this offseason.
The White Sox made one of their first moves of the winter on Thursday, signing right-hander Alec Marsh to a minor league contract, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com .
"White Sox also have signed RHP Alec Marsh to a minor league deal with a spring invite," Merkin wrote on X.
Marsh hasn't pitched in two years due to setbacks with a shoulder impingement injury in 2025 and labrum surgery that kept him sidelined for the entire 2026 season.
"It's hard to say what the White Sox can expect from Marsh going into next year. Chicago has needs in the rotation and in the bullpen and will surely make further moves to add pitching before the next campaign begins.

"It might be hard for Marsh to take on a starter's workload after two entirely lost seasons," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.
Marsh, 28, was selected 70th overall by the Kansas City Royals in 2019. From 2023-24, he posted a 4.96 ERA and averaged 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings across 203.1 innings.
The Arizona State product has made 33 starts in 43 career appearances, so the White Sox could use him as a reliever or a fifth or sixth starter if he cracks the Opening Day roster.
