The San Francisco Giants entered Tuesday facing another public issue after Rafael Devers ' dugout reaction during Sunday's loss to the Miami Marlins drew national attention and put president of baseball operations Buster Posey 's response under scrutiny.

The situation began during the Giants' 2-1 loss vs. the Marlins on Sunday, as Miami capped a three-game sweep. In the late innings, manager Tony Vitello removed Devers for pinch-runner Jonah Cox. Devers appeared unhappy with the decision, gestured toward the dugout, and later went directly to the clubhouse without speaking with reporters.
By Tuesday, the conversation had shifted to the Giants' president of baseball operations. Posey told reporters he had not yet spoken directly with Devers about the incident, even as attention around the disagreement continued to grow.
That admission drew reaction beyond the organization because of the public nature of the moment. With the Giants struggling through a brutal 2026 season, the handling of a dispute involving one of its most visible players became part of a larger discussion about communication and leadership.
ESPN's Buster Olney took to X, formerly Twitter, and addressed comments from the Giants' president of baseball operations and former three-time World Series champion catcher after the situation continued to circulate around baseball.

"It makes no sense that Buster Posey hadn't spoken to Rafael Devers about Sunday's incident before meeting w reporters before today. We talk about player performing with urgency. What about urgency for the head of baseball ops?"
Olney's reaction placed more attention on the Giants' internal response. Teams often expect players to answer quickly after public disputes, and his post suggested similar urgency should come from the front office.
The timing added pressure. San Francisco enters Tuesday at 31-46, fourth in the NL West, and leads the Athletics 2-1 in the bottom of the third after losing three straight.

For now, the focus remains on whether Posey, Vitello, and Devers can resolve the matter privately. Still, Olney's comments ensured the conversation moved beyond one frustrating dugout exchange for a club already under heavy scrutiny.
