- Why Is Diego Luna Not Playing Today for MLS All-Stars vs. Liga MX All-Stars?
The MLS All-Stars will face the Liga MX All-Stars tonight in the 2026 MLS All-Star Game.
The match brings together some of the top players from Major League Soccer and Mexico 's top division. Diego Luna , however, will not be part of the MLS squad in Charlotte.

The Real Salt Lake midfielder has had a strong start to the 2026 MLS season. Luna has scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in 11 league appearances .
His season was interrupted by a mid-season knee injury that forced him to miss several matches. The setback affected his rhythm and overall numbers, but Luna has since returned to full fitness and worked his way back into Real Salt Lake's attacking lineup.
Luna's recent international story has also been frustrating. The midfielder was left out of the USMNT 's 2026 World Cup squad, despite having been part of the United States' Gold Cup roster a year earlier. That made his absence from the MLS All-Star Game another disappointment for the 23-year-old. So, why isn't the RSL midfielder involved tonight?

Diego Luna is not playing because he was not selected for the 2026 MLS All-Star roster.
The midfielder was not picked through fan voting, the coaches' selections or the league's leadership picks for the squad facing Liga MX.
Luna's 4 goals and 3 assists in 11 matches were not enough to earn him a place on the final roster. His mid-season knee injury also interrupted his campaign and kept him out of several games during the selection period.

Luna will therefore watch this year's game from the sidelines while continuing to focus on Real Salt Lake's MLS campaign.
