FOXBOROUGH — New England’s game on Sunday in Baltimore was originally slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff at M&T Stadium.
However, the league and its TV partners believed the matchup deserved a better time slot, so it was flexed into prime time, replacing Dolphins vs. Bengals . Now it’ll begin at 8:20 p.m. in front of a national audience on Sunday Night Football.
It’s a far cry from where the Patriots were just a year ago, and second-year quarterback Drake Maye is thrilled the game was moved into the national spotlight.
“That’s what you play for,” Maye said. “That’s what we’re trying to play for, for many years down the road. Trying to be the team that people want to see at night and people want to see when the only game on is us.
“That’s what you want this environment to be. That’s what you want the New England Patriots to be. Playing in night games that matter and home playoff games. That’s what we’re building towards and working towards. That’s one of the goals. So we’re just going to keep trying to get there.”
Maye was outstanding in his last outing on national television.
On Monday Night Football earlier this month, Maye went 24-for-31 for 282 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns as the Patriots blew out the Giants, 33-15.
