Leeds United could potentially extend Lukas Nmecha's contract soon.
The Whites signed the Germany international as a free agent in the summer of 2025 after he left VfL Wolfsburg.
Since signing for the West Yorkshire outfit, the 27-year-old has been a bit-part player, but he is the main backup option for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Nmecha is in the final year of his contract at Elland Road and it remains to be seen whether Daniel Farke will have him at his disposal next season.
The German centre-forward has continued to play a backup role in LS11 this season, with all seven of his Premier League appearances coming off the bench.
As things stand, the former Wolfsburg striker could enter pre-contract discussions with other teams starting in January, but the Peacocks could stop that.
Lukas Nmecha contract clause emerges at Leeds United
Nmecha is attracting interest away from Leeds ahead of the winter transfer window.
Wrexham, Southampton and FC Koln have been linked with a move for the soon-to-be free agent.
Unless the Whites agree new terms with the German striker, he will be free to join another team next summer.
Nmecha signed a two-year contract with the Whites when he signed for them.
According to Leeds Live on 28 October, the former Wolfsburg centre-forward's deal includes an option to extend it by a further year.
If all parties agree, then the striker will be tied down at Elland Road until 2028, dismissing any chance of a pre-contract agreement in January.
Lukas Nmecha emerges as January transfer target abroad as Leeds United contract runs down Should Daniel Farke part ways with Lukas Nmecha?
Nmecha is currently Leeds' only natural number nine, apart from Calvert-Lewin.
The Germany international has arguably become even more valuable for Farke after Joel Piroe's move to West Ham United.
In January or next summer, the Whites could look for further attacking reinforcements, but keeping hold of Nmecha would make sense.
The German ace understands what Farke wants and does a decent job whenever he's given the chance.
Last season, the ex-Wolfsburg attacker scored seven goals and provided three assists in all competitions for the West Yorkshire outfit and having someone reliable like him in the squad is certainly a blessing for Farke.
