The Cleveland Guardians are taking on the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday for their second contest of a three-game series. However, Cleveland will be playing without Steven Kwan , as the club scratched him from the lineup just hours before the start of the game.
Reports indicate that the 28-year-old outfielder is dealing with stiff neck , according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. Angel Martinez will replace Kwan at center field and will lead off in the lineup.
“ Steven Kwan
was scratched with a stiff neck,” reported Stebbins.
“New lineup:
CF Martínez
DH DeLauter
3B Ramírez
1B Hoskins
LF Valera
RF Fry
2B Brito
C Naylor
SS Rocchio”
This will only be Kwan’s second missed game this season. It doesn’t appear the injury is too serious, as the day off is likely precautionary for Steven Kwan. The five-year veteran has been a little cold at the plate early in the season, but he has plenty of time to turn things around. Through 97 at-bats this season, Kwan has totaled 22 hits, one home run, and eight RBIs, giving him a .227 batting average and .315 OBP.
While Kwan takes the day off, the Guardians aim to earn their 16th win of the season against the Blue Jays on Saturday. Game 1 of the series ended in an 8-6 victory for Cleveland. The club owns a one-game lead over the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central, as the team has played well to begin the campaign. The Guardians game against the Blue Jays is scheduled to begin at 3:07 p.m. EST.
