Bass sustained a hip/groin injury before Week 1 that landed him on injured reserve, where he has remained ever since.

When he first suffered the injury, it wasn't supposed to keep him out the entire season, but that's how things ended up playing out.

Here's what we know about Bass' injury.

Why Tyler Bass isn't playing for Bills

Bass' injury never healed properly, which led to the veteran kicker getting surgery that ended his season, head coach Sean McDermott revealed in December.

After his replacement, Matt Prater , came down with his own injury near the end of the regular season, McDermott was asked again if there was a chance that Bass could return, but the Bills head coach said that was not the case.

"Sean McDermott said he does not believe there is a chance for kicker Tyler Bass to return at any point this season,"  The Buffalo News' Jay Skurski  reported.

Thankfully, Prater, who has been sensational replacing Bass this season, was quickly able to overcome his injury en route to returning for the wild-card game.
