The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets are set for Game 2 of a 3-game series up north in the 6. Tuesday was a big day for the city of Toronto as the Raptors traded for Kawhi Leonard , bringing back the 2019 NBA Finals MVP to the city where he won a championship.
A few hours later, the Blue Jays announced that star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr . was scratched from the Toronto lineup with back tightness. Sean Keys is moving over 1B, Ernie Clement to 3B, and Luis Urías joins the lineup at 2B.
The start of the 2026 season has been one to forget for Guerrero Jr. The slugger only has four home runs on the year, and his .695 OPS is much lower than last season. His OPS is on pace to be a career low, much worse than his rookie season (.772). Hitting doubles has been a major part of his game, but he has only managed to reach second base 12 times, and 16 times if you include the round trippers.
The Jays have a deep lineup, but have a few others injured and on the IL ( Jesus Sanchez , Addison Barger , Lenyn Sosa ). Toronto has been giving reps to players like Keys, Urias, and Yohendrick Pinango. With Guerrero Jr. out on Tuesday and potentially Wednesday, those names will need to step up and make an impact. This is a crucial time for the club, who is attempting to climb their way back into contention in the American League.
First pitch is at 7:07 ET with Noah McLean on the mound for NY and Kevin Gausman on the bump for the Jays.
