Yankees analyst Terrence Kehm has made the case for Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras over Athletics backstop Shea Langeliers as a potential trade target for New York.
Contreras was named the 2026 World Series MVP after helping the Brewers secure their first championship with a 4-1 series victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. He delivered an impressive postseason, setting a franchise record for the most hits in a single playoff run. The catcher also joined Derek Jeter as one of the few players in MLB history to hit .350 or better in three different series during the same postseason.

He became the eighth catcher to win the World Series MVP award and the first since Salvador Perez in 2015. Days after Milwaukee's championship victory, Terrence discussed the Yankees' catching needs during an appearance on "Pinstripe Territory." He explained why he believes Contreras could be a better trade target than Langeliers, despite the latter having more years of team control.
"I think it's going to be William Contreras. I think that they obviously need a right-handed catcher. Even Brian Cashman had kind of admitted to that at the trade deadline press conference. And as much as I love Langeliers, and I do love him a lot, and he has more control than Contreras, but that's the thing. I think Contreras will cost a little less with Prospect Capital because you have him for less control," said Terrence Kehm.
He added:
"Langeliers is also coming off an injury, but Contreras, what does he have? Championship pedigree now. He has a championship pedigree, which I think the Yankees desperately need. And he put up a clinic behind the plate in the World Series. Made some really nice defensive plays. He handled that pitching staff really well in Milwaukee."
Contreras finished the 2026 postseason with a .373/.448/.588 slash line and a 1.037 OPS across 13 games.
William Contreras shared his emotions after the Brewers' World Series Win
Following Milwaukee's 4-1 victory over Tampa Bay in Game 5 on October 28, William Contreras became emotional during his postgame interview. He thanked his teammates, the pitching staff, and everyone who contributed to the franchise's first World Series championship.
"I gotta say thanks, God, for everything. Thanks to my teammates, to the pitchers. Thanks to everybody, man, I am really proud. I don't have words to say something, and let's go, Brewers," said William Contreras.
Contreras also had a productive regular season, finishing with a .270 batting average, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs.
