The New York Giants confirmed the worst fears for one former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver who suffered a serious injury during practice.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that ex-Steeler turned Giants wide receiver Calvin Austin III had indeed torn his ACL, effectively ending his 2026 season before it ever really got going. This is a major blow for the lightning-fast receiver, as he was primed for a big role in the Jaxson Dart-led offense.
During practice on Tuesday, Austin reportedly "crumbled to the ground" in one-on-one drills, immediately grabbing at his right knee as teammates and Giants owner John Mara consoled him. He was ultimately carted off.
Austin, who was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has dealt with many injuries to begin his career, including a season-ending foot injury as a rookie and a shoulder setback during the 2025 season.
We at Steelers Wire feel for Austin during this difficult time and wish him a speedy recovery.
