The New York Yankees earned a crucial 12-4 win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday to officially split the four-game series on the road. Ben Rice led the way with two home runs, including a long ball that manager Aaron Boone called a "dagger" while speaking to reporters after the game, via YES Network and MLB.com.
"Obviously the first home run was huge, but that second one, it felt like a little bit of a dagger," Boone said. "Like, 'Okay, we got this.' Not that you ever feel comfortable because you don't… But really good to see him have a lot of really good at-bats this series."
The Yankees' offense got the job done on Thursday . The lineup has endured ups and downs in recent weeks, so their performance against the Rays in the ball game was an encouraging sign. While the Yankees have struggled over the past couple of weeks , they are still only four games behind the Rays for the lead in the American League East standings.

Still, New York will likely look to acquire a couple of bats before the trade deadline. The Yankees' lineup has been underperforming overall. Of course, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton's injury absences have not helped matters in that regard, but even the players on the field have not been playing up to expectations for the most part.
The Yankees know they need to be better. Despite their slump, they are still in good position to make a postseason run. New York will look to finish strong before the upcoming All-Star break.
