His time with the Yankees may already be cut short . New York designated the 26-year-old for assignment on Wednesday to create a 40-man roster spot for reliever Angel Chivilli-- acquired from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league first baseman T.J. Rumfield.

Chivilli, 23, had an ugly 7.06 ERA in 43 appearances last season with the Rockies, but his average fastball velocity is 97.1 mph.

How Siani can remain with the Yankees

Siani can remain with the AL East organization if he goes through waivers unclaimed. The Yankees can use him as outfield depth in Triple-A. New York originally claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers .

Known as a defense-first center fielder, Siani was a fourth-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 2018. He played in 124 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024 and hit .228/.285/.285 with two home runs and 20 stolen bases in 23 attempts.

His path to the majors with the Yankees was bleak, following the return of Cody Bellinger and the presence of Jasson Dominguez and prospect Spencer Jones .
