Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton gets 'lingering' injury update amid IL stint appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The New York Yankees are riding a four-game winning streak into a series with the Texas Rangers . Jasson Dominguez scored a huge run on Monday to finish a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles , taking advantage of his MLB chance. He has that chance because of an i njury to Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton , for whom Aaron Boone provided an update on before Tuesday's game.
" Giancarlo Stanton (right calf) has yet to resume running. The injury is lingering "a little bit," Aaron Boone said, and they haven't wanted to push it," MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reported.
Stanton injured his calf while running the bases against the Houston Astros on April 24. The Yankees waited a while to put him on the injured list, but he is now eligible to return. Boone is putting up the stop sign on that, and the Bombers don't have to rush him back.
Since joining the Yankees in Houston, Dominguez is hitting .273 with an .833 OPS, knocking in four runs and scoring three. He had three of those RBI in one inning on Saturday against the Orioles, and has used his speed to score runs.
Last year, Dominguez's defense was a huge reason for his lack of playing time down the stretch. With Stanton on the shelf, the youngster does not have to play the field to contribute to the club. He has shown an improved swing from the right side of the plate in this stint, but the questions still linger about his defense.
If Dominguez can figure out his defense in left field, the Yankees may finally have the Martian they promised their fans. For now, those fans can just enjoy his great production at the plate. It seems like Dominguez's run will continue for a while, as Stanton will remain on the IL.
Dominguez is in Tuesday's lineup for another shot at Jacob deGrom and the Rangers.
