The New York Yankees are coming off their third straight loss, losing to the Detroit Tigers 5-3. In the game, Jazz Chisholm had a bold move. Chisholm decided to play second base while enjoying a lollipop .
Aaron Boone has addressed the antics of his infielder now, speaking about the lollipop incident while speaking on Talkin' Yanks.
"Oh yeah, that pisses me off," Boone said. "I didn't know about it until after the game. So he and I talked about that. That won't be going on."
The incident happened in the bottom of the fifth inning, wth the Yankees down 4-1 in the game. It was also not the first time this year that Chisholm has done this. He did so in a game against the Boston Red Sox earlier this year, taking an at-bat with a lollipop.
"That was the second time? There was another time?" Boone said. "Yeah… I'm not on that."
It was not the best look for a player hitting just .226 on the season in a game in which the Yankees were trailing. He would go on to have a hit in the game and also strike out twice. On the year, he has just 11 home runs and 31 RBIs, a far cry from the 50-50 season he was expecting. He is hitting just .183 in June with five home runs and 11 RBIs. Having just one hit while your team is losing is enough for him to enjoy a lollipop during the game, but not enough for Boone to endorse it.
The team has now lost four of its last five games. The Yankees are 46-31 on the season , which does place them as the leader in the AL East. They will continue their series on the road with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday evening.
