The New York Yankees are one of the hottest teams in MLB right now as the club owns a 28-17 record entering Saturday's contest against the New York Mets . Ben Rice has been unstoppable through the campaign so far, and his performances have manager Aaron Boone feeling a sort of way.
While talking with media members before the start of the game against the Mets, Boone claimed that he believes Rice is becoming one of the best hitters in baseball, according to Yankees Videos. Boone also admitted that he always thought Rice was a brilliant hitter, even as a prospect, and that the 27-year-old slugger is coming into his own this season.
"I think he's turning into one of the best hitters in the league," said Boone about Rice. Did I have him at that level [coming up]? I don't know. I knew he could hit. I knew he could. I really thought he was a middle-of-the-order hitter on a really good team. I think he's probably shown he's even a little more than that."
Ben Rice is seemingly in the middle of a breakout year. He enters Saturday's game against the Mets with a .314 batting average and .418 OBP, which are both career highs, while recording 43 hits, 14 home runs, and 30 RBIs. The third-year veteran also leads all of MLB in slugging percentage (.686) and OPS (1.104).
The Yankees' first baseman is playing at an elite level right now, and if he keeps it up, he could be in the mix for one of the season awards or even his first All-Star nod.
