The New York Yankees made a notable roster move before their series opener against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.
According to the MiLB transaction log , the Yankees have released outfielder/first baseman Seth Brown .
Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports that Brown had an opt-out in his contract and decided to search for a better path to playing time in the Majors.
Brown, 33, had been playing with New York's Triple-A affiliate at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He hit .235 with nine home runs and a .753 OPS in 53 games.
The left-handed hitter spent the first seven seasons of his Major League career with the Athletics . In 2022, Brown set career highs in homers (25), RBIs (73), and OPS (.749).
"Speculatively speaking, both the Padres and Phillies have struggled against right-handed pitching this season, and both have recently incurred some notable injuries in the outfield mix," Adams wrote.

Brown could provide either of those two National League clubs with a power stroke from the left-handed side of the batter's box.
Jasson Dominguez , Spencer Jones, and Max Schuemann were all ahead of Brown on the Yankees' outfield depth chart.
