Montgomery had the club's top individual performance despite the 5-run loss. The shortstop hit two home runs, including a three-run shot in the third inning and a solo blast in the eighth.
The second swing gave the White Sox's former top prospect 40 career home runs in only 140 games. It also made him the fastest player in White Sox history to reach that milestone.
MLB's Sarah Langs posted the historic note on X, formerly Twitter, after the club spotlighted the rising talent's big swing during the series finale.
"Colson Montgomery reached 40 career home runs in 140 games, the fewest games to the mark in White Sox history

He hit his first homer on 7/22/25. Since that day, he's second in MLB in home runs, behind only Kyle Schwarber (49)"
The Yankees still controlled the night offensively. Cody Bellinger homered, doubled, and singled, while Paul Goldschmidt added a three-run homer to keep pressure on Chicago 's pitching staff.
Anthony Volpe chipped in an RBI triple, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a late home run. That production helped the Yankees continue building momentum in the AL East.
Carlos Rodon earned the win after allowing three runs across five innings. Jake Bird later entered in the ninth and gave up a solo homer to Sam Antonacci, setting the final score.

For the White Sox, the milestone reached by Montgomery provided a historic moment during an otherwise challenging road trip to the Bronx. While Chicago dropped its ninth consecutive game at Yankee Stadium—showing their ongoing difficulties when playing in the venue—the team remains in control of the AL Central and appears to be a strong contender.
For the Yankees, the larger takeaway remained positive. New York kept rolling, even while Montgomery briefly stole the spotlight with a franchise record.
