The New York Giants have claimed defensive tackle Ben Barten off of waivers from the New York Jets , the team announced. The move came shortly after Big Blue traded Daniel Faalele to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday.
Barten signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent last spring but was cut by the team during training camp. He then signed with the New York Jets on August 1 before being waived by the franchise on August 18.
The rookie defensive tackle recorded a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss in his final season at Wisconsin in 2025. He joins a Giants defense that includes D.J. Reader, Darius Alexander , Shelby Harris , and several others at defensive tackle.
The Giants have worked to add to the position after trading Dexter Lawrence and losing Roy Robertson-Harris to a torn Achilles this offseason.
Barten will get his first opportunity to play for the Giants in the team's second preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
