Throughout the offseason, the New York Giants held a competition between second-year player Ben Sauls and undrafted rookie Dominic Zvada , with Jason Sanders originally in the mix before being released in June. After stints with the Steelers and Falcons in his rookie season, the Giants signed Sauls to the practice squad in November before promoting him to the active roster in December. He made all eight field goal attempts and all seven extra points in the final three games.
After a strong inaugural season with the Wolverines in 2024, Zvada had a disappointing 2025 campaign, taking a massive step back in production. He made 17 of 25 field goal attempts, with a 68% accuracy rate, and converted on all 43 extra points. This ultimately led the 2024 Second-Team All-American to go undrafted and land with the Giants.

The competition was very close and ultimately came down to the final preseason game against the New York Jets . Dominic Zvada played the full game Friday night and converted on all three field goals, including from 23 yards, 53 yards, and 46 yards. Zvada also made both of his extra points.

During Friday's postgame press conference, John Harbaugh declared Dominic Zvada the winner of the kicking competition, as reported by Pat Leonard of NY Daily News Sports . However, the Giants may try to trade Ben Sauls this weekend after a strong training camp. A team in desperate need of a kicker could give up a sixth- or seventh-round pick rather than risk him going through the waiver process and a team with a higher waiver claim.
