- Will elimination of National Letter of Intent change Alabama football recruiting? Kalen DeBoer says no
Big changes are coming to the NCAA. The NCAA Division I Council is eliminating the National Letter of Intent program , which is the formal agreement between an athlete to attend a college program.
And while Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer said he still has to be educated on the changes, he doesn't expect many changes to the recruiting landscape or approach.
"You know, a lot of times, the information comes out and then our compliance office comes in and meets with us. It doesn't effect anything, literally, today or tomorrow," DeBoer said on the "Hey Coach" show Wednesday. "But I think a lot of it will still be still as we've done in the past. There will be other ways to bind prospects who sign with Alabama and vice versa. So I don't see it being something, at least with the tweaks they are going to make — there's an SEC agreement, there's other things that we have that guys can sign that will be binding."
Early signing day for the Alabama football program is Dec. 4, the Wednesday following the final FBS regular-season game. It will continue through the following Friday. The regular signing period begins Feb. 5.
