As expected, Nashville SC reportedly has turned down a Qatar club's offer for reigning Major League Soccer MVP Hany Mukhtar .
According to The Athletic, the bid from a club playing in the Qatar Stars League was worth $7 million. Nashville isn't interested in selling Mukhtar, who also won the Golden Boot Award last year for most goals scored. The 28-year-old do-it-all German has 13 goals and seven assists in 24 games this season.
That's good enough for him to be considered a favorite for the 2023 MLS MVP , which would make him the first back-to-back recipient in the league's 27-year history. On Thursday, Mukhtar is set to play in his second consecutive MLS All-Star Game at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., alongside fellow designated player and U.S. men's national team member Walker Zimmerman .
Mukhtar's contract, which he signed in April 2022, is valid through the 2025 season. His $3.19 million guaranteed compensation in 2023 is the 17th-highest salary in MLS, according to the MLS Players' Association Salary Guide.
Mukhtar was Nashville's first designated player when it signed him in August 2019 , requiring a $3 million transfer fee from Danish club IF Brondby.
Since joining Nashville, he has 91 goal contributions (goals and assists) in 103 regular-season games.
