- Former Alabama coach Nick Saban named to College Football Hall of Fame
One year to the day of retiring his post from Alabama football , coach Nick Saban was announced as the newest inductee of the College Football Hall of Fame.
Saban was named as the first inductee of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame class during ESPN's "College GameDay" before the College Football Playoff semifinal between Ohio State and Texas .
"Any time anything like this happens, it's because you had a lot of great people in your organization," Saban said. "A lot of great players, a lot of great coaches, a lot of support staff. And they made a great team. I was happy to drive the bus, but we had some great people on it."
Between 2007-23, Saban led Alabama to six national championships and 201 wins: the second-most wins at a single school in SEC history. Only Bear Bryant had more with 232 wins in 25 seasons.
Saban's seven national championships — six at Alabama and one at LSU — is more than any coach in the modern college football era.
Alabama won nine SEC championships with Saban.
"A well-deserved honor for one of the greatest coaches of all time, in any sport," Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Congratulations, Coach Saban!"
Saban also coached at Toledo and Michigan State along with a one-season stint with the Miami Dolphins .
In college football, Saban had a 297-71-1 record.
He had four Heisman Trophy winners, 66 All-Americans, 25 of which were unanimous and 49 NFL first-round draft picks.
Since retiring from Alabama, Saban has been an analyst on "College GameDay."
