ROSEMONT, Ill. – It hasn't taken Jaloni Cambridge long to make an impression on her teammates.
The five-star guard was not one of Ohio State's two team representatives Wednesday at Big Ten women's basketball media day , and as a freshman she's yet to play a game for the Buckeyes . As sixth-year guard Madison Greene looked at the 2024-25 season, though, she couldn't help but notice a similarity between Ohio State's recent past and a projected pivotal player for its future.
In describing Cambridge, Greene invoked Jacy Sheldon .
"It's her speed," Greene said of Cambridge. "I would say she's really quick, really fast."
The No. 2 player in the 2024 class according to ESPN, Cambridge signed with the Buckeyes after playing prep ball for Montverde (Florida) Academy. A Nashville native, she is listed at 5-7.
"She's got incredible talent and (had) a great high school career," coach Kevin McGuff said of Cambridge. "She's going to be a spectacular player."

The 5-10 Sheldon was a five-star prospect in the 2019 class ranked No. 41 in her class by ESPN HoopGurlz. After a standout prep career at Dublin Coffman, she left the Buckeyes with her name all over the record book . In five seasons with Ohio State, Sheldon became the third Buckeye to surpass 1,900 points, 400 rebounds, 350 assists, 200 steals and 150 made 3-pointers in her career, joining Samantha Prahalis and Kelsey Mitchell.
She was also a tenacious defender, something Greene said she's seeing early signs of in Cambridge.
"This past week she's been playing really good defense," Greene said. "She's been running through (screens) – you know how Jacy does – stealing the ball, doing a lot of great things like that. She's quick off the dribble and has a quick first step just like Jacy does. Nothing's changed in practice. Still got a (player like that) guarding people."
