Nashville SC is without star midfielder Hany Mukhtar for Sunday's MLS season opener against the New York Red Bulls .
Mukhtar left Thursday's 3-0 win over Moca FC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup after suffering hamstring tightness in the first half. After the game, Nashville SC coach Gary Smith described his exit as a precaution.

Mukhtar, the 2022 MLS MVP, scored 15 goals and added 11 assists last season. He came off the bench in last season's opener while dealing with hip tightness and played 15 minutes, assisting on a goal by Jacob Shaffelburg in a 2-0 win over New York City FC .
Sam Surridge is also inactive Sunday after leaving Thursday's match due to injury. The striker fell on his left shoulder in the 51st minute and immediately went to the locker room.
Mukhtar and Surridge were both listed as questionable on Saturday's status report, which clubs are required to submit 24 hours prior to kickoff.
Walker Zimmerman and Dan Lovitz, who were also listed as questionable, are available off the bench for Nashville SC. Neither defender made the trip to the Dominican Republic, instead playing in a team scrimmage.
