- 'I'm expecting it to be Press': Trevor Lawrence weighs in on Jaguars' play caller talks
With the Jacksonville Jaguars back at the Miller Electric Center and officially in the swing of the offseason program, quarterback Trevor Lawrence met with media this week for the first time since the season ended.
Lawrence broached several topics including his contract discussions , recovery process, opinions on the team's new additions and reflection on how the second half of the season went.

But one topic of notoriety that came up was whether Lawrence thinks offensive coordinator Press Taylor will be calling plays this fall.

The discussion originated during the 2024 NFL Combine, where head coach Doug Pederson stated , "I have to evaluate myself and Press as decision-makers and play callers and see what's best for our team."
Pederson was asked again at the NFL Owner's Meetings in Orlando last month and said he hasn't decided yet.
Naturally, Lawrence is a player who the decision will directly impact. But he has not had a discussion with Pederson or Taylor about the play caller changing.
Jaguars Offensive Coordinator Press Taylor addresses the media prior to the start of the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday morning training camp session July 27, 2023 inside the Miller Electric Center training facility.
"I haven't had any conversations about anything necessarily changing or staying the same," he said. "I don't really know, I'm with you guys."

Taylor began calling plays full-time last season, though, he called plays during the second half of games during the 2022 season.
Pederson said last season that he relinquished those duties to be more in tune with the team and the game. It frees him to make more situational decisions.
The Jaguars struggled on offense at times last year. But all of it isn't attributed to Taylor's play calling. Injuries hampered the team and a lack of focus from key players derailed momentum in critical moments.

"I think we've had success with both guys calling plays in the past," Lawrence said. "Even last year, we could've been better offensively, but we did have some success.

"I do like the continuity, the consistency that I have with Press, I know him really well. I think that's a good thing, that we're keeping that intact."
Lawrence will be entering his third season in Pederson and Taylor's system this fall. In the two previous seasons he's thrown for 8,129 yards with 46 touchdowns and 22 interceptions while completing 65.9 percent of his passes.
He's clearly building something with the staff and is looking forward, to moving forward.
"I think it's about creating an identity and being really good at what we do," he said. "I think we have a clear vision and picture of what that is.

"I'm excited and I'm expecting it to be Press at this point because that's kind of the direction we've been heading and what I expect. I'm not hearing anything."
