GIRLS BASKETBALL
Gia Casalinova, Kylie Bettinger and Katelyn Harabedian celebrated Senior Night in style Wednesday night at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.
The three sharpshooters led CVCA's girls basketball team to a season sweep of Principals Athletic Conference foes with a 66-22 win at home over Orrville.
Casalinova made five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points and four assists as CVCA (18-3, 14-0) dispatched Orrville (7-14, 4-10).
CVCA earned a share of the PAC-7 title with Northwest and Tuslaw in 2020 and split the league crown with Northwest in 2021 and 2022.
"I have never seen a starting five on a varsity team play as together and have this much chemistry," said Casalinova, who is CVCA's all-time girls basketball scoring leader with 1,648 career points. "Playing with them [Bettinger and Harabedian] for four years now has been the best thing to happen to me."
Bettinger made four 3-pointers and totaled 12 points and four steals.
"This is such a special group," said Bettinger, who has 906 career points. "We put so much faith in our coaches, in the lord, in our teammates and in the school. This is a great environment. Like Gia said, this group is truly one of a kind. I am so grateful to play alongside these ladies and grow alongside these ladies in my faith."
Harabedian converted two 3-pointers on her way to 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
"On the floor we play together and off the floor we are together and we are all best friends," she said. "That will help us going into the postseason. Our coach has done a really good job of pushing us to be the best our team can be. Everyday he is giving us something new to work on."
CVCA sophomore Joi Williams made three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and four assists. Royals junior Hadley Hajdu (two points, four assists) and sophomore Hunter Guinn (three points, two blocks) also made an impact.
"This team upholds our core values of I am third and selfless," CVCA coach Andy O'Keefe said. "I am third is God first, others second and yourself third. They do that better than anybody. They are selfless, care for their teammates and are great leaders. This is an extremely talented group.
"... This is our first goal we checked off the list, winning the conference outright. There is still work to be done."
Orrville seniors Averi Haley and Sophia Pertee combined for 17 points.
