Nashville SC has re-signed defender Josh Bauer , the club announced Tuesday.
Bauer, 26, had his best MLS season in 2024, becoming one of Nashville's more dependable players across the back line. The fourth-year professional set career highs in starts (22), games played (31) and minutes (2,184) across all competitions, seeing time at center back and right back.
Bauer's new contract runs through the end of the 2026 season with an option for 2027.
"Josh was a key contributor for us this past season in a number of different roles on the field," Nashville SC general manager Mike Jacobs said in a news release. "We are excited to have him back as part of the present and future of our club."
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Bauer was due for a raise on the $94,202 salary he earned last season, which made him just the 23rd-highest paid player on the team.
Nashville's defense, along with the rest of the team, struggled in 2024, giving up 54 goals as NSC slumped to a 9-16-9 record and its worst finish in MLS. But the back line is experienced, and Bauer, Walker Zimmerman , Lukas MacNaughton , Jack Maher , Daniel Lovitz and Shaq Moore will look to bounce back in 2025 and help Nashville return to the playoffs after it missed for the first time.
