Mukhtar's Best XI selection is his third, following appearances in 2021 and 2022. Zimmerman has made the team five straight seasons, 2019 with Los Angeles FC and the last four with Nashville.
Mukhtar, last season's MLS Most Valuable Player, saw his numbers drop from 2022 but still finished the season tied for fifth in the league with 15 goals and tied for 10th with 11 assists. Both numbers led Nashville's offense by a wide margin. The midfielder produced 17 goals and 17 assists across all competitions in 2023.
Zimmerman was integral to Nashville's defense which allowed 32 goals, tied with the Seattle Sounders for fewest in MLS. He had two goals and an assist in MLS play and two goals and an assist during Nashville's run to the Leagues Cup final in August.

Nashville SC went 13-10-11 this season and finished seventh in the Eastern Conference before being swept by Orlando City SC in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
