Nashville SC defender Walker Zimmerman scored for the United States men's Olympic soccer team in its group-stage match against New Zealand in Marseille, France, on Saturday.
Zimmerman's goal, which made it 2-0 for the U.S., came in the 12th minute. Djordje Mihailovic took a free kick that Duncan McGuire headed to Nathan Harriel in front of the goal. Harriel's shot was saved, but Zimmerman beat two New Zealand defenders to the rebound and poked the ball around them.
The U.S. won 4-1 behind goals from Mihailovic, Gianluca Busio and Paxten Aaronson in addition to Zimmerman.
Zimmerman, 31, is one of three overage players for the U.S. team at the Olympics, which is otherwise limited to players 23 or younger. He has made 42 appearances for the senior national team and played in all four of the USMNT 's games at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar .

The United States men are making their first appearance at the Olympics since 2008, and 16th of all time, though they've appeared in just five Olympics since the tournament became an under-23 event in 1992. The USMNT is in Group A of the 16-team tournament with host France, New Zealand and Guinea.
France defeated the U.S. on Wednesday 3-0 in the opening game of the tournament for both teams. The U.S., which faces Guinea on Tuesday in its final group-stage match, needs to finish in the top two of Group A to advance to the quarterfinals.
