Between their first in-game action of the summer and an unexpected end to their trip back home, the Carolina Panthers probably didn't mind an uneventful outing of training camp this afternoon.
Here are the top takeaways and observations from Saturday:
The Panthers announced the addition of defensive lineman Jayden Peevy before the start of practice this afternoon. This will be the second stint in Carolina for the 24-year-old, who spent a chunk of the 2023 season on the team's practice squad.
Peevy's return was likely a response to the injury of rookie defensive lineman Jaden Crumedy, who exited the preseason opener. Head coach Dave Canales told reporters that the sixth-round pick sustained a high-ankle sprain and, of course, is expected to miss some time.
Canales also stated that second-year offensive lineman Cade Mays, who sprained his shoulder during the exhibition, will take "a couple of weeks" to get back. Mays played 25 of his 28 snaps on Thursday from the center position.
In a more high-profile update, Canales was asked about the current status of first-round pick Xavier Legette.
"Yeah, he's doin' great," Canales said of Legette , who injured his foot last week. "Again, it's a really a day-to-day thing. And we're just trying to get the discomfort out of the foot completely, clear it up before we start getting him into really fast change-of-direction things. So the in-line stuff is great. And we'll be smart about that and bring him along."
Legette left practice last Sunday with what was initially ruled a lower-leg injury. He'd later go for testing on his foot, with the X-ray and MRI results coming back clean.
