With three official practices and one week in the can, has anything changed for our 53-man roster projection ?
Let's make another forecast for the Carolina Panthers after the opening leg of training camp . . .
In: Bryce Young , Andy Dalton
Out: Jack Plummer
If the Panthers don't add another veteran to this mix, perhaps after initial roster cutdowns are through, then sticking with just Young and Dalton makes the most sense.
In: Chuba Hubbard , Miles Sanders , Jonathon Brooks , Raheem Blackshear
Out: Rashaad Penny , Mike Boone , Jalen Shirden
The fourth spot in the room remains with Blackshear, whose success on special teams gives him the edge.
In: Diontae Johnson , Adam Thielen , Xavier Legette , Jonathan Mingo , Ihmir Smith-Marsette , David Moore
Out: Terrace Marshall Jr. , Michael Strachan, Daewood Davis , Deven Thompkins , Jalen Coker , Devin Carter
Marshall Jr. made a bit of noise in the opening week. If he continues to string together a strong offseason for his third different coaching staff, then the former second-round pick may see his fourth season in Carolina.
In: Tommy Tremble , Ian Thomas, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Stephen Sullivan
Out: Jordan Matthews , Feleipe Franks
Like Moore in the slide before, Sullivan's Seattle ties to the current regime could keep him around.
In: Ikem Ekwonu , Damien Lewis, Austin Corbett , Robert Hunt , Taylor Moton , Brady Christensen , Yosh Nijman , Cade Mays , Chandler Zavala
Out: Ricky Lee , Jeremiah Crawford, J.D. DiRenzo , Andrew Raym , Nash Jensen , Badara Traore
The slicing for this group began this past week, when the Panthers parted ways with undrafted rookie Christian Duffie.
In: Derrick Brown , A'Shawn Robinson, Shy Tuttle , Nick Thurman , LaBryan Ray , Jaden Crumedy
Out: Junior Aho , Ulumoo Ale , T.J. Smith
The Panthers removed another undrafted rookie in Popo Aumavae , who got hit with the waived/injured designation after an Achilles injury forced him out of the first practice.
In: Jadeveon Clowney , D.J. Wonnum , K'Lavon Chaisson, DJ Johnson, Cam Gill , Kemoko Turay
Out: Amaré Barno (Reserve/PUP), Eku Leota , Kenny Dyson, Luiji Vilain , Derrick McLendon
After exploring the likes of Yannick Ngakoue , Carl Lawson and Marquis Haynes Sr., the Panthers came away with Turay—who could factor into this group given his NFL experience.
In: Shaq Thompson , Josey Jewell , Trevin Wallace , Michael Barrett
Out: Chandler Wooten , Tae Davis , Claudin Cherelus , Jackson Mitchell
The seventh-rounder Barrett will have to prove his worth on special teams, especially with Wooten still on the depth chart.
In: Jaycee Horn , Dane Jackson , Troy Hill , Chau Smith-Wade , Dicaprio Bootle
Out: D'Shawn Jamison, Lamar Jackson , Willie Drew , Kiondre Thomas
Bootle was the first man up on the outside after the Panthers pulled Horn this past Saturday. He's currently the frontrunner to hold that role unless a notable free-agent signing lies aheads.
In: Xavier Woods , Jordan Fuller , Sam Franklin Jr., Nick Scott
Out: Jammie Robinson , Alex Cook, Demani Richardson
Robinson may be in a fight for that fourth and final spot with the veteran Scott.
In: Eddy Piñeiro , Johnny Hekker , JJ Jansen
Out: Harrison Mevis
Piñeiro went five-for-five on his field goal attempts on Wednesday. Mevis, between Thursday Friday, hit on seven of his 10 tries.
