Voters frowned on Eli Manning 's .500 regular-season record and looked past his two Super Bowl wins in denying him – for now, at least – a place in Canton.
Manning was a finalist but is not part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025, announced just now.
According to Pro Football Reference, Manning's regular-season record as a starting quarterback was 117-117.
The quarterbacks ahead of him in regular-season wins are Johnny Unitas (118), Russell Wilson (121), Fran Tarkenton (124), Matt Ryan (124), Phillip Rivers (134), Dan Marino (147), John Elway (148), Aaron Rodgers (153), Ben Roethlisberger (165), Drew Brees (172), Eli's brother Peyton Manning (186), Brett Favre (186) and Tom Brady (251).
The only quarterbacks in this group not in the Hall of Fame are the ones not yet eligible: Wilson, Ryan, Rivers, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Brees and Brady.
On the flip side, Eli Manning 's 117 losses are more than any quarterback in NFL history other than Vinny Testaverde, whose career record was 90-123-1.
Manning's 117-117 record is along the lines of Matthew Stafford , whose 2025 season with the Rams brought his mark to 108-113-1. If Stafford plays in 2025 and repeats his 2024 record of 10-6, his career mark will be 118-119-1.
Manning's Hall of Fames hopes mostly rode on his two Super Bowl wins, both over the Patriots , by scores of 17-14 on Feb. 3, 2008, and 21-17 on Feb. 5, 2012.
Manning appeared in a lone game, each a loss, in four other postseasons. His Giants fell to Philadelphia 23-11 in the 2008 postseason. Donovan McNabb, the Eagles' quarterback in that game, has been outspoken about deserving a place in the Hall of Fame.
McNabb posted a 98-62-1 regular-season record and was 9-7 in the postseason. His only Super Bowl appearance was a 24-21 loss to New England on Feb. 6, 2005.
McNabb's and Manning's Super Bowl games against New England were close ones.
In Super Bowl 39, McNabb took the Eagles into the fourth quarter with the game tied at 14-14 before Brady led two touchdown drives.
In Super Bowl 42, New England led 14-10 when Manning took over on his own 17 with 2:45 left. David Tyree made a famous 32-yard catch on third-and-5. Manning hit Plaxico Burress with a 13-yard touchdown with 39 seconds remaining.
In Super Bowl 46, the Giants went to the fourth quarter trailing 17-15. That was still the score when Manning took over on his own 12 with 3:46 left. He immediately hit Mario Manningham for a 36-yard completion, leading to Ahmad Bradshaw 's 1-yard TD run with 1:04 left.
Manning was the No. 1 pick of the 2004 draft, in which Rivers went at No. 4 and Roethlisberger went at No. 11.
The last quarterback elected to the Hall of Fame was Peyton Manning in 2021 . Before that, it was Kurt Warner in 2017 .
Manning's career record is hurt by his rookie year (1-6 in 2004) and his final three seasons (9-26 from 2017-19).
This was Eli Manning's first year of eligibility. The Giants' other Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks, Phil Simms and Jeff Hostetler, are not in the Hall of Fame, although Simms' regular-season record with the franchise, 95-64, was superior to Manning's. Hostetler was 51-32 overall, including 16-9 with the Giants.
