The Jacksonville Jaguars and former kicker Brandon McManus face a civil lawsuit from two women alleging sexual misconduct, as first reported by ESPN on Monday afternoon.
The suit accuses McManus of sexual assault by rubbing against them during the Jaguars' flight to London for the first of the team's two overseas contests in 2023, before the Oct. 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons. It also states that McManus attempted to distribute $100 bills to flight attendants to drink and dance during the flight, and accuses the Jaguars of negligence.
The lawsuit, which lists the women only as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, was filed Friday. Both were reportedly working as flight attendants on the Jaguars' flight.
McManus, 32, is a Philadelphia native who played college football at Temple. He spent nine NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos prior to his Jaguars tenure.
After joining the Jaguars in May 2023 , McManus played only one season in Jacksonville. He converted 19 consecutive field goals at one stage but missed five kicks in five weeks from Weeks 12 through 16 and was not retained at season's end. He subsequently signed with the Washington Commanders .
In a statement released to the USA TODAY Network and multiple media outlets, the Commanders said, "Earlier today, we were made aware of the civil lawsuit filed on May 24 against Brandon McManus. We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter. We have been in communication with the League Office and Brandon's representation, and will reserve further comment at this time."
The Jaguars have not released a public comment on the allegations as of Monday afternoon.
Jaguars players are scheduled to resume organized team activities Tuesday.
This is a developing story.
