- Richard Young commits to Alabama football as five-star RB over Georgia, Oregon
Alabama football is wrapping up July in a big way.
The Crimson Tide landed a Class of 2023 commitment from five-star running back Richard Young over Georgia and Oregon.
Young, the No. 23 recruit in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, gives Alabama 16 commitments and two of the three top running backs.

Young, 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, is the No. 2 running back in the nation and the No. 6 recruit in Florida.

Georgia legacy Justice Haynes , the No. 3 running back, committed to Alabama over Georgia and Ohio State in June. Alabama running backs coach Robert Gillespie was the primary recruiter for both backs.
Young rushed for 1,755 yards and 19 touchdowns and averaged nine yards per carry in the 2021 season for Lehigh High School in Lehigh Acres, Fla., just outside Fort Myers.

To begin the week, Alabama landed Georgia five-star safety Caleb Downs , the Crimson Tide's highest ranked commit, over Georgia, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Ohio State.
The Crimson Tide have the No. 4 class in the country but at least two fewer commits than each of the three programs that rank higher, No. 1 Ohio State, Notre Dame and Georgia.
That's in large part because Alabama has four five-star recruits, twice as many as every other class in the nation. Alabama landed eight commitments in July.
