- Studs and duds from Panthers' Week 14 loss to Eagles
We nearly saw a Rocky-esque story in Philly on Sunday, as the Carolina Panthers were inches away from knocking out the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. And while the upset wasn't to be, the underdogs put up a formidable fight.
So, let's take a look at some of the studs (and duds) from the 22-16 loss :
Young appears to still be in baller mode, as his playmaking ability and improvisational strengths shined through once again. He completed 19 of his 34 passes for 191 yards, a touchdown and an interception—his first since Week 9 .
Young's heroics would've lit up the landscape of the NFL had Legette reeled in what should have been a game-tying 32-yard touchdown pass. The rookie struggled at securing the ball all afternoon.
Thielen, on the other hand, had no issues reeling in the rock. He notched nine receptions for a game-high 102 yards.
Hubbard was also a leader on offense. He rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on a robust workload of 26 carries, filling out the void left behind by Jonathon Brooks ' early exit .
The Panthers offense had trouble setting up, as they were called for two delay-of-game penalties. One of those flags came on the final drive, making a fourth-and-4 into a fourth-and-9 situation—a spot that resulted in the game-losing turnover on downs.
Jewell and the Panthers defense deserve major props for holding up against Philly's finely-tuned offense, which totaled just 292 yards on the day. Jewell led the way with a team-high 10 tackles and accounted for 1.5 of the unit's four sacks.
