The Texas Tech football team has added another top-tier player out of the transfer portal to bolster its No. 1 class in the country.
Matt Zenitz of 247Sports and Max Olson of ESPN both reported Thursday that the Red Raiders have received a commitment from Georgia Tech defensive end Romello Height .
Height's college career began at Auburn, but he's also made stops at USC and Georgia Tech before landing with Texas Tech for his final year of eligibility. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound edge rusher had 34 tackles this season for the Yellow Jackets , tallying two forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks and an interception. He appeared in 12 of USC's 13 games during the 2023 season, notching 21 tackles, four sacks and a fumble recovery.
ESPN ranked Height as the 36th-best player available in the transfer portal. His arrival helps bolster Tech's transfer class, which is ranked No. 1 by 247Sports and On3. Height makes it 15 known commitments to this point with the portal set to close Dec. 28.
Before the winter transfer portal window opened, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said he estimated getting 10 players to join the Red Raiders. Tech has already surpassed that mark. McGuire also listed the positions he'd like to fill out with transfers.
Just two of those positions have yet to filled as the Red Raiders still seek a running back and a veteran kicker to join the fold. Texas Tech isn't done just yet.
