The Texas Tech football team will be without starting defensive tackle E'Maurion "Dooda" Banks for the rest of the 2024 season, the team announced in its availability report released Monday.
Banks was carted off the field in the first quarter of Saturday's 59-35 loss to Baylor with an apparent lower-body injury. Head coach Joey McGuire said postgame it was a knee injury for Banks, the extent of which was not known at the time. Texas Tech does not comment on specific injuries to players beyond the availability report, per team policy.
"We lose a leader," McGuire said. "... You're losing a guy that's really physical. He's got some really good length"
Defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter revealed that Banks will have surgery "in the next day or two."
Banks ― who started six of the team's first seven games ― is the fifth player out for the season with a knee injury for Texas Tech this season, joining outside linebackers Dylan Spencer and Joseph Adedire , offensive lineman Vinny Sciury and running back Cam'Ron Valdez.
Defensive back Javeon Wicox (knee) and offensive lineman Dylan Shaw (hand) are once again listed as out for Saturday's game at TCU .
Players listed as questionable for this week's game include receiver/returner Drae McCray (head), offensive lineman Sterling Porcher (ankle), linebacker Bryce Ramirez (lower leg) and defensive back Marcus Ramon-Edwards (head).
