Jared Goff is not having his best game for the Detroit Lions in their NFC divisional round showdown with the Washington Commanders , and Tom Brady is not holding back.
The Lions entered the game favored to win by more than a touchdown, but you wouldn't be able to tell it by the way the first half went. The Lions' defense really struggled to slow down the Commanders' high-powered attack, but it was three turnovers from Goff that really sunk the first-half effort.

In the first half alone, Goff had a pick-six on a badly overthrown pass, fumbled when the team was driving down the field for a potential score, and then threw another pick right before the half as the team was trailing 31-21 and really needing points.
Making matters worse, Goff had to briefly leave the game to be evaluated for a concussion when he took a really hard hit while trying to stop the return on his first interception.
Brady shared some harsh criticisms of Goff, who once upon a time was traded to the Lions as an afterthought but has played at a near MVP-level over the last two seasons.

"I think when you take away Goff's first read, he does get a little jittery in the pocket," Brady said. "And that's part of this gameplan that the Commanders had and I thought one of the keys for this defense was taking away Goff's first read, applying pressure to the middle of the pocket, disrupt his timing it worked on the fumble and again back there's certain guys who love the ball in their hands, move it around, a lot like Jayden Daniels does. Goff is more of an on-time passer. Again, he can be absolutely surgical. When they play zone defense, you force him to hold the ball a little bit, and you allow that defensive line to pressure the quarterback."

The Lions earned the 1-seed thanks to a great all-around team effort in Week 18 in a win over the Minnesota Vikings , but after a week off, it was the Commanders who came in with all the momentum.
