- Where is Qua Russaw? Kane Wommack said Alabama football linebacker was on injury 'pitch count'
Alabama football linebacker Qua Russaw has been held back in recent weeks, defensive coordinator Kane Wommack confirmed Monday.
After Russaw rolled his left ankle in Alabama's Sept. 14 win against Wisconsin , he's played in each game since. But according to Pro Football Focus, Russaw's snap counts have not exceeded 23 since the win against the Badgers. And against South Carolina , Russaw saw the field for 19 snaps.
Wommack said Russaw has been continuing to get healthy over the past four weeks, leading to limited snaps. But Wommack said Russaw should be ready to go against Tennessee on Saturday.
"He's gotten himself into a position where I think he's healthy, packed and ready to go," Wommack said. "We had him on a little bit of a pitch count as we were working through these last couple of weeks. I feel like he's in a really good position moving forward. I think he continues to do some really good things on film. So (I'm) excited about, kind of, his full week of preparation, you know, being a little bit more 100%, if you will."
In six games, Russaw has 16 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, a sack and a forced fumble. In the past two games against Vanderbilt and South Carolina, Russaw has six total tackles, one total pressure and two missed tackles.
"I have been pleased with some of the things that he's doing when he does get in the games," Wommack said. "I think that he has a chance to create some impact in meaningful moments."
Russaw and Alabama will take on Tennessee on the road Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.
