ChatGPT Announces Major Change Affecting All Users

Online shopping is about to get a whole lot easier as OpenAi's ChatGPT rolls out "Instant Checkout."

The company announced on Monday that users "can now buy directly from U.S. Etsy sellers right in chat."

More than a million Shopify merchants, like Glossier, SKIMS, Spanx and Vuori, will soon be added.

"Today, Instant Checkout supports single-item purchases. Next, we'll add multi-item carts and expand merchants and regions," OpenAi revealed.

How to Shop Via ChatGPT

According to a news release on Monday, online shoppers can ask the AI bot for suggestions on things like "best running shoes under $100" or "gifts for a ceramics lover." ChatGPT will search the web for relevant results.

"Product results are organic and unsponsored, ranked purely on relevance to the user," the company explained. "If a product supports Instant Checkout, users can tap 'Buy,' confirm their order, shipping, and payment details, and complete the purchase without ever leaving the chat."

ChatGPT acts as the liaison between the shopper and the merchant, but all order information and processing is handled by the seller.

"Instant Checkout items are not preferred in product results. When ranking multiple merchants that sell the same product, ChatGPT considers factors like availability, price, quality, whether a merchant is the primary seller, and whether Instant Checkout is enabled, to optimize the user experience," the company assured users.
