I Used a 360 Camera on an Island Outrigger Boat and the Shot Blew My Mind

The sun was beating down. Deep blue ocean surrounded us for miles in every direction.

I was sitting on the wooden outrigger frame of a traditional boat slicing through open waters. Most creators would just point a regular camera or launch a drone. But the wind was picking up fast. I needed a completely fresh perspective that captured the raw scale of the horizon.

I pulled out the Insta360 ONE X.

The goal was simple. Capture the feeling of floating on a tiny planet in the middle of nowhere. Framing a shot like this on moving water isn't easy. The boat was pitching, spray was hitting the lens, and I had one shot at this light before the sun dropped too low.

I extended the invisible selfie stick out over the bow. Pure magic.

The result? Incredible.

Using the camera's "Tiny Planet" stitch mode, the entire horizon wrapped into a seamless globe beneath us. You get the full scope of the ocean, the clouds overhead, and the boat cutting a crisp white wake through the sea. It instantly turns a simple boat ride into a floating mini-world.

When you're filming in harsh sun on the water, exposure control is everything. I kept my shutter speed high to freeze the water droplets and locked the white balance so the sky wouldn't blow out. A subtle color grade on the ocean blues made the whole frame pop.

We are all sharing this tiny planet together. Sometimes you just need the right angle to remind yourself how epic it really is. Grab your gear, get out on the water, and don't be afraid to experiment with new perspectives.
