5 Games With Terrible Endings
There are a million games out in the world, and some of them have pretty terrible endings. No, I don't mean endings in which bad things happen; I mean an ending in which everything you did to get to that point felt like it was all for nothing.
While this doesn't necessarily make the ending terrible, it sure helps in making you feel pretty terrible inside. This list shows five different games over the years with endings that a lot of fans thought were less than stellar.
These games aren't in any particular order, so take their placements with a grain of salt! If you happen to agree with it, then that's a great coincidence.
5 - Prince of Persia
2008 - Ubisoft Montreal
Ubisoft
I won't sit here and spoil exactly what makes the ending of Ubisoft's 2008 take on Prince of Persia , but some fans weren't all too thrilled about it. However, I will say that it involves a scene with one of the major protagonists that might leave things a little bit ambiguous.
Fortunately, there was an epilogue DLC that cleared that up. Yup, you had to purchase a DLC in order to find out how the game really ends. Some fans would even argue that this DLC even retcons some of the things that happened throughout the story.
Sure, the game sort of revived the franchise, but it didn't really need to do all of that.
4 - Mass Effect 3
2011 - Bioware
Bioware
A lot of people might disagree with this one because the ending to Mass Effect 3 wasn't actually all that bad. The reason I put it here is that I felt like there really wasn't a reason to be either a Paragon or a Renegade Shepard. You can just walk toward whichever ending you choose.
Sure, some of these endings are blocked off depending on some choices, but considering that the devs needed to make a DLC ending that expanded on what happens already says a lot.
I also think that the ending was a little lazy in that regard, especially since it is supposed to conclude the trilogy's story. But hey, what do I know?
2 - Xenoblade Chronicles X
2015 - Monolith Soft
Monolith Soft
I definitely remember picking up Xenoblade Chronicles X back when it came out on the WiiU and thinking that it was way too massive. No, I didn't think there was a lot to do: I thought that it took forever to get anywhere, and locations were so wide and open without any real susbstance.
As for the ending, it quite literally teases another game, but then the franchise decides to just continue the mainline franchise instead. The final text of the game literally says, "The story never truly ends," when it does. In fact, it ended right there.
Of course, that might mean we'll get a sequel game soon, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.
1 - Fable 2
2008 - Lionhead Studios
Lionhead Studios
I absolutely LOVED Fable 2 , but that ending was just bad. No, I don't mean the ending where you end Lucien's reign. i mean the one where you either choose to resurrect everyone who died, resurrect just your family and dog, or get a ton of money.
The decisions don't even feel like they're there to set you up for success, and feel like throwaway answers. Why wouldn't you resurrect everyone who died while the Spire was built? Alternatively, since it's the end of the game at that point, who cares if you save any of them at all?
When it comes to the money, you can easily make the 1,000,000 gold you're given just by playing minigames. So, the ending is really just based on how you feel, even though you've been roleplaying as either a hero or a villain the entire time.
