Bandai Namco Enters the Mobile TCG Arena with a New Digimon Game

At Digimon Con 2025, Bandai Namco Entertainment unveiled Digimon Alysion, a free-to-play digital trading card game for iOS and Android, positioning itself as a direct rival to Pokémon TCG Pocket by combining collectible card battles with an immersive story experience and digital pet care elements.
Players will build decks featuring both classic Digimon like Agumon, Gabumon, and Renamon—as well as brand-new creatures including Gemmon, a fluffy Digimon embedded with crystals, and a mystery evolution of Renamon dubbed Tenkomon. Core characters like Kanata Hondo, Futre, and Valner Dragnogh were previewed alongside their Digimon partners, hinting at RPG-style narrative arcs beyond standard card fights.
Gameplay reportedly adapts the existing Digimon Card Game rule set into a mobile format, while integrating new "DigiAly" card variants unique to Alysion. Matches are online multiplayer duels with deck customization, strategic resource management (such as the Memory meter mechanic), and flashy card animations during combat sequences.
What sets Alysion apart is its additional Tamagotchi-style Digimon raising: players nurture their partner creatures, using mini-games or feeding activities to impact stats and bond with their Digimon, weaving creature care into card strategy.
The announcement confirms that the game will be free to download with in-app purchases, though no date has been set beyond a coming closed beta slated for August 2025. Registration for the beta opened around the end of July, with approximately 10,000 slots randomly assigned to applicants meeting device and age requirements.
With mobile TCGs booming and Pokémon TCG Pocket surpassing 100 million downloads in only a few months, Digimon Alysion feels both timely and significant. Its possible edge lies in a hybrid design—story-led progression, partner Digimon growth, and mobile-specific cards—rather than relying solely on match-by-match deck wins.
As Bandai builds anticipation through Digimon Expo and beta engagement, one question looms: can Alysion sustain long-term player investment in a crowded mobile card market? If early promise and polish delivery hold, it may carve a niche as a compelling alternative to ongoing Digimon physical card game ecosystems.
