Beloved PlayStation 2 Game Still Has an Active Community That Wants a Remaster

Back in 2002, SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs was released for the PlayStation 2 and it quickly become one of the most popular games on the console.

SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs  had a great single-player campaign mode that allowed you to control three non-playable character (NPC) teammates with both on-screen and voice commands using the included headset.

However, SOCOM really made its mark with its online multiplayer, where teams of eight people could battle against one another. The multiplayer mode also featured voice communication between players through the aforementioned headset.

While it certainly wasn't the first online multiplayer game, it was one of the earlier ones and amounted to a breakthrough for console gaming.

Now, 23 years after the first iteration of the SOCOM series was released (there were 10 SOCOM games in total released for different PlayStation consoles), and 12 years after the online servers were shut down, the community lives on and, believe it or not, there are still ways to play against other fans of the series in different SOCOM games.

But, understandably, that isn't good enough for SOCOM vets, with the community pleading with Sony for a remaster of the legendary game.

"How is PlayStation STILL sleeping on SOCOM Remastered?" Reddit user SOCOM_JOHN wrote in a post.

"SOCOM remake, it has been 22 years. (Please)," another Reddit user, Kartonnen_Doos , pleaded.

There is even a petition up on Change.org  started by SOCOM fans in 2021 that asks for a remaster of the series.

It is at least somewhat surprising that PlayStation hasn't opted to remaster the game, seeing as how the SOCOM series was popular in its heyday and so many companies have remastered their old titles over the years.

Chances are there will be plenty of SOCOM vets ready to re-take the battlefield if the beloved franchise ever gets a remaster.
