Best Brawl Commanders From Edge of Eternities

Best Brawl Commanders From Edge of Eternities originally appeared on GameDaily .

Magic: the Gathering's upcoming set, Edge of Eternities , is days away from its release. The majority of the cards from the set have already been revealed, and it looks like it has fewer legendary creature cards compared to previous sets that came out this year. With that, let's take a look at some cards that could be good in the Brawl format.

Tannuk, Memorial Ensign

Tannuk, Memorial Ensignis a card that generates value with minimal investment. It damages your opponent by 1 whenever a land enters your battlefield, which is pretty much consistent damage as long as you have enough lands. This card also nets you a card draw if its effect triggers twice in a turn.

Landfall has a lot of support in the set with the new Lander token cards. One of the best support cards for this commander within the set is Icetill Explorer, which not only allows you to play an extra land per turn, but also allows you to play lands from your graveyard. It helps to trigger Tannuk'seffect twice and provides an extra source to pull lands from.

Partner Tannuk, Memorial Ensignwith cards that increase the damage you deal to opponents like Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, or Ojer Axonill, Deepest Mightand your opponent will be in for a bad time.

Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgam

Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgamgenerates a lot of value but requires some assistance to achieve it. However, the biggest upside to this card is that it takes advantage of the "commander tax". The card enters with +1/+1 counters on it depending on the amount of mana spent to cast it, which means that as the commander tax gets higher, Dyadrineenters the battlefield bigger than before.

Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgam's attack trigger nets you a card draw and a 2/2 creature when you remove +1/+1 counters from your creatures. Keep in mind, however, that it does not work if Dyadrineis the only creature with counters. Luckily enough, Edge of Eternitieshas a lot of support for the +1/+1 counters game plan. The perfect card for it is Ouroboroid, a card that gives all creatures on your board +1/+1 counters depending on its power every turn, and the best part is that it gives itself the counters as well, which means the number of counters it gives gets bigger each time.

Build Dyadrinewith cards that distribute +1/+1 counters, or give extra counters to your creatures to get Dyadrineits triggers, and make your board bigger and stronger. Cards like Bristly Bill, Spine Sower, and Railway Brawler, would work great with this deck.

Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar

Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplaris a low-cost creature that can easily become a threat. At only 2 mana cost, it is already a 2/2 body that has vigilance and menace, making it a great attacker in the early game. Then it gets stronger as creatures you control die or get exiled, which works well with the set's new mechanic, Warp.

Whenever you cast a creature for its Warp cost, it gets exiled at the end of the turn but can be cast for its normal cost at a later turn, and there is a perfect Warp card for this deck - Timeline Culler. It can be cast from the graveyard for its Warp cost, which means you can sacrifice it using other effects to trigger Syr Vondam, and then cast it for its Warp cost for another trigger, which can be looped on later turns.

As Syr Vondam's power to 4 or higher, not only does it become a better attacker, but it also makes your opponent decide - trade off a nonland permanent of theirs to take it off the board or keep getting attacked by a big creature. Alongside Ketramose, the New Dawnwho cares about exiled cards, you have two threats on the board that can be hard to remove.

Let's not forget to mention that Syr Vondam's trigger also nets you life, and there are a lot of cards in black or white that trigger off of life gain. A good card for this would be Excalibur II, which gains charge counters whenever you gain life, and once you equip it to a creature, that creature gains +1/+1 for each charge counter on Excalibur II. With enough charges, equipping this card to Syr Vondamensures that its power is at 4 or higher.
