Best MTG TMNT Commanders: Top Picks from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Set
What are the best new commanders from the MTG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set to build around in Commander? This guide ranks the strongest MTG TMNT commanders from both the main set and Eternal-legal set based on power, synergy, and fun factor.
Best MTG TMNT Commanders
The following are the best MTG TMNT commanders from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set. I evaluated the possible commanders from this set and decided that these are the best commanders to build a deck around.
The MTG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles main set didn't have many good new commanders to choose from. Many potential commanders from the main set were too expensive relative to what they do. However, I included the few commanders from the main set that I felt were decent enough to build around.
On the other hand, the Turtle Power! commander deck
had multiple creatures besides the face commanders who were actually good. As a result, I included these cards on my list because they're good enough options to build for those interested.
Best MTG TMNT Main Set Commanders
These are the MTG TMNT commanders from the main set that could be worth building a new commander deck around.
Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers - New Gruul Stompy Commander from the MTG TMNT Main Set
Wizards of the Coast
Firstly, Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers is a new Gruul-colored commander in this set. This card lets you cheat in creatures whenever it attacks. The creatures you cheat in with this creature's effect enter tapped and attacking. Because of this, you'll ideally want to include creatures with high power so you can deal plenty of damage or creatures with powerful ETBs. This commander's ability reminds me of Winota, Joiner of Forces from Ikoria. However, unlike Winota, Raph & Mikey's ability only triggers when it attacks.
Unfortunately, Raph & Mikey's mana cost is incredibly expensive. However, its color identity has access to some of the best ramp in the game which can let you play it sooner. Additionally, you this creature has good stats and haste, so you can immediately benefit as soon as it enters if your opponents don't have removal.
Savanti Romero, Time's Exile - Best Black Commander from the MTG TMNT Main Set
Wizards of the Coast
Savanti Romero is the best black commander from the MTG TMNT main set. This Demon Wizard lets you draw cards at the cost of life depending on the number of +1/+1 counters on it. The more +1/+1 counters on this creature, the more cards you'll draw and the more life you'll lose. Because of this, it's ideal to pair it with cards that drain opponents or with lifelink effects to help you offset the life loss.
Additionally, cards that let you put +1/+1 counters on this creature helps you draw more cards. As a result, I think this commander could work best in a Voltron-style deck that can accelerate its effects.
Slash, Reptile Rampager - Best Red Commander from the MTG TMNT Main Set
Wizards of the Coast
Finally, the last new commander from the main set that I'll recommend is Slash, Reptile Rampager. This turtle's Alliance ability is exactly the same as Purphoros, God of the Forge from Theros. However, while he lacks Purphoros' durability, Slash has a built-in way to trigger his burn effect whenever he attacks. Additionally, this creature also has decent stats for his mana cost, which makes him more resilient to damage-based removal.
Players who enjoy playing group slug or burn decks will probably enjoy piloting Slash. If you pair him with cards that generate creature tokens or other cards with burn effects, you can quickly whittle down your opponents' life totals.
Best MTG TMNT Eternal-legal Set Commanders
These are the best MTG TMNT commanders from the Eternal-legal set. All of these commanders can be obtained from the Turtle Power! commander deck.
Bebop, Skull & Crossbones and Rocksteady, Mutant Marauder
Wizards of the Coast
Wizards of the Coast
This pirate-themed version of Bebop and Rocksteady are a new Golgari-colored partner commanders from the Turtle Power! precon. Bebop serves as this pair's card draw engine while Rocksteady makes your other creatures stronger. The pair is probably a great choice if you want Golgari commanders that aren't themed around sacrifice mechanics.
Krang, the All-Powerful - Best Blue Commander from the MTG TMNT Eternal-legal Set
Wizards of the Coast
Next, Krang, the All-Powerful is the best blue commander from the MTG TMNT Eternal-legal set. This commander is Panharmonicon that triggers whenever a player draws a card. Additionally, this variant of Krang also grows stronger whenever a player draws their second card each turn.
Decks built around Krang, the All-Powerful will likely include as many card draw effects as they can. This shouldn't be too difficult because Krang's color identity is the best at drawing cards. Furthermore, Krang is great at punishing other blue players or decks that include plenty of card draw too.
Rat King, Pale Piper - Best Black Commander from the MTG TMNT Eternal-legal Set
Wizards of the Coast
The best black commander from the MTG TMNT Eternal-legal set is Rat King, Pale Piper. This mono-black commander rewards you with a rat creature token whenever it or another nontoken creature you control leaves the battlefield. Additionally, it also has an ability that lets you sacrifice your tokens for card draw.
Card advantage is one of the most powerful things when playing commander. Pairing Rat King with other token generators means you'll get a constant stream of tokens to sacrifice and fuel your card draw engine. Furthermore, if you can find a way to generate infinite mana while having a constant stream of tokens, you can then draw your entire deck with this commander.
The Turtle Power! Character Select Partners - Most Versatile Commanders from the MTG TMNT Set
Wizards of the Coast

The Character Select partner commanders from the Turtle Power! precon are the most versatile commanders from the MTG TMNT set. You can pair any of these six commanders with each other, letting you build a deck that's tailor-made to your liking. The only thing that it will cost you is the number of colors you can run if Leonardo isn't one of your commanders.
Still, I think it's a fun design choice to create multiple partner commanders that can provide players with options on how they want to build their Teenage Mutant Ninja-themed deck.
Heroes in a Half Shell - Best Overall Commander from the MTG TMNT Set
Wizards of the Coast
Finally, Heroes in a Half Shell is my top pick as the best MTG TMNT commander. This commander is the alternate commander from the Turtle Power! commander deck. It has strong synergy with mutants, ninjas, and/or turtles by making these creature types grow stronger whenever one of them deal combat damage to a player. Additionally, Heroes in a Half Shell also lets you draw a card whenever one or more of the aforementioned creatures deal combat damage. These abilities trigger per player that's dealt combat damage, so you can get up to three triggers of these per combat.
Furthermore, this commander has four powerful evergreen abilities in vigilance, menace, trample, and haste. These are all powerful keywords that make this commander a threatening presence on the board. Moreover, this creature is also great at utilizing all of the Mutants, Ninjas, and Turtles that you can find in the main set.
This wraps up this guide for the best MTG TMNT commanders. While there weren't many good options from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles main set, the Eternal-legal set had some good choices to pick from. Hopefully this guide helped you learn more about what new commanders from the set are worth building.
